In short

  • Sommelier needs no account and shows no ads. We don’t sell data or share it with advertisers.
  • Game reports are sent only if you turn them on. You can turn them off and delete what was sent in Settings.
  • Your Steam, Epic Games, GOG, Ubisoft and EA logins and passwords stay on your Mac. Sommelier doesn’t see them or send them anywhere.

What the app sends

Everything Sommelier sends to our server is listed below. Items 1–3 happen only with your permission.

  1. Game launch reports. Only if “Share how games run” is on in Settings. A report holds: the game (its store and ID), whether it started and how long you played, the frame rate, your Mac model (chip, GPU core count, memory), the macOS version, the Sommelier and game engine versions, and the game’s launch settings (graphics and the like). It holds no paths to your files and no names.
  2. Crash reports. Also only with that permission, or when you press “Report a Problem” yourself. They hold the same as launch reports, plus the end of the launch log. We strip your user name, paths to personal folders and account names from the log. You can look at the report before it is sent.
  3. Shaders. Only if “Ready-made shaders” is on. These are technical graphics files: shader IDs and their compiled form. There is nothing about you in them.
  4. Update checks. Once a day the app asks whether a new version is out. The request includes the Sommelier version.
  5. Recipes, fix lists and announcements. The app downloads them once a day. It tells us nothing about itself when it does.

How we tell players apart

The app creates a random installation ID. It isn’t linked to you, your Mac or your accounts.

On the server, the installation ID and IP address are stored only as a salted hash, a one-way transformation. We don’t store the address itself. The address hash is there to limit spam and so that one computer can’t “vote” on a game’s status many times.

How long it’s kept

  • Launch reports (a new report about a game replaces the old one)1 year
  • Crash reports180 days
  • Anti-spam counters1–2 days
  • Shaders not yet confirmed by a second player60 days
  • Database backups8 weeks

Shaders confirmed by a second player are kept as long as players need them. When a period ends, the data is deleted automatically.

How to delete your data

In the app, open Settings, go to the reports section and press “Delete…”. This deletes every report sent from this Mac, and the app forgets its installation ID.

Or write to us at support@playsommelier.com and send your installation ID. It’s in the same place in Settings, next to the “Copy” button. Without the ID we can’t find your reports: they aren’t linked to anything about you.

Where it’s stored

Our server runs on Cloudflare (Workers, D1, R2). For us Cloudflare is simply hosting: it handles the app’s requests.

The website is hosted on Cloudflare too. It has no advertising trackers. If we add a visit counter, we’ll say so here.

What other players see

Only combined data: a game’s status (“works” and the like), the average frame rate per Mac model and shared shader packs. Nothing that points to a particular person.
